Week 1: July 5-9 Pirate Adventures
Learn a new Pirate language, Enjoy a great Treasure Hunt, Learn about Real Pirate Stories and Make your own Pirate Flags and Telescopes and Maps, play the Captain Jack game

Week 2: July 12-16 Bugs Bugs Bugs
Go on a Nature Hike to identify the different kinds of bugs, Make Butterfly Magnets, Create your own Bug, Learn about cocoons and Play the Bug Bug Spider Game, Make Bumble Bee Flowers

Week 3: July 19-23 Adventure Camp
This week will be all about the outings, we will be taking the well known Lynch Bus Service for a trip to the Aquarium, Waterparks and local venues, we will be tourists in our own town.

Week 4: July 26-30 Jungle Safari
Make your very own Jungle Volcano’s, Collage of Flowers, Play the Jungle Limbo Game, Draw your own Rainforest Village what their houses would look like and who lives there, Go on a Safari trip
to Queens Park and take pictures of the different animals.

Week 5: Aug 3-Aug 6
We are Closed as the School Floors are being waxed

Week 6: Aug 9-Aug 13 Wild Wild West
Dust off your hat and get ready for Lasso Lessons and play the round up the heard game, Horseshoes, Sack Races and Pin the Star on the Sheriff, you can find your fortune with panning for gold and getting a reward for finding the most wanted, you will design your own bandana and dress up like a real Cowboy/Cowgirl and end it with the Campfire Capers game,

Week 7: Aug 16-Aug 20 Hawaiian Water Fun
Dress up in your best Hawaiian Gear and Get ready to play
This week is full of Water Sports, Beach field Trip, Water balloon games, water slide, Volley Ball and the Ice cube Melt games, Make your own lei and hear ancient stories about Hawaiian Culture

Week 8: Aug 23-Aug 27 Space Spectacular
Bring on the adventure, Going on a Moon Trip with a Spaceship designed by the class, you will Play Moon Rock Games , Make the solar System with Paper Mache and Balloon Rockets, Play the Man from Mars Game and make your very own space helmets you will explore where no kids have gone before, its out of this world.

Week 9: Aug 30-Sept 3 Superheroes/ Sports
Enjoy Mask Making, the Superhero obstacle course with a jungle Gym, hula hoops and rope, Superhero Strength Testing running, Jumping, lifting. Making Spiderman Webs, Story Writing about your Super Powers, Play the capture the flag game

Reminder For The First Day Of School

The first day of school for Grades 1 – Grades 7 will be Tuesday, September 7, 2010. School will be in session from 8:45am – 10:00am. We will have a regular school day beginning on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 8:45am – 3:00 pm.

 The first day of school for Kindergarten will be Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the regular scheduled time. The morning class is from 8:45am – 11:30am; the afternoon class is from 12:30pm – 3:00pm.

 Grade 5 Pizza Party

The grade 5’s enjoyed a complimentary pizza lunch on Wednesday, June 23rd and the afternoon off for being the class that raised the most walk-a-thon money this year. Congratulations on a job well done!

 OLM First Swap Meet -September 11, 2010

 10am-2pm

 An opportunity to save your stuff, your time and energy and sell your items at the FIRST OLM SWAP MEET! All crafts, garage sale items, toys, clothings and books are welcomed. 

 Come and join us in this community event to either to sell your items or find your treasures.

 Table rentals are $20 and are limited, so reserve as soon as possible. Outdoor tables will be in the OLM parking lot and indoor tables will be in the OLM gym.

OUR LADY OF MERCY FIRST SUMMER VOLLEYBALL CAMP

 

Dear Parents:

Our Lady of Mercy School is hosting its 1st Summer Volleyball Camp and is open to all students who are currently in Grades 3 to 7.
The purpose of the Camp is to develop the players’ sportsmanship and to prepare them for upcoming volleyball competitions.
The program has been designed to introduce, improve and refine the fundamentals of the game. The skills taught will focus on passing, setting, hitting, blocking, serving, game rules and strategies.

Camp details:

  • Where: Our Lady of Mercy School Gymnasium
  • When: August 16 – August 20 9 am to 12 noon August 23 – August 27 9 am to 12 noon
  • Cost: $100.00 per week or $150.00 for both weeks (cash only please). The cost includes summer camp T shirt, coaching, training facility, equipment and end of camp celebration.SAVE A SPOT: A deposit of $50.00 (for a week session) or $75.00 (for 2 weeks session) will save your child a spot. The owing balance will then be paid in full on the first day of your child’s scheduled session.

Each session will have a maximum of 20 players and is prioritized on a first come first serve basis.
 

PROCEEDS FROM THE CAMP WILL BE USED TO PURCHASE NEW VOLLEYBALL UNIFORMS FOR THE SCHOOL.

Annual Walk-A-Thon
Important Information!

Walk-A-Thon Date: Friday June 4th, 2010 (rain or shine)

Schedule: (Times are Approximate)

  • 8:30 am – 9:45 am Volunteers check in at the school gym during this time.
  • 9:00 am School Mass. Everyone is welcome to attend.
  • 10:00 am Walk-A-Thon Starts!
     - Everyone departs from Our Lady of Mercy School Gym.
     - Map & directions will be given out on walk-a-thon day.
     - Kindergarten – Walk Saint Thomas More track only.
     - Grades One to Seven – Walk entire walk-a-thon route.

The half-way mark of the walk-a-thon is at Robert Burnaby Park, where volunteers will have oranges and water ready. After this break, the second half of the walk-a-thon is completed by following the map to the Saint Thomas More High School Track where everyone will walk around the track, and continue walking around the track until the whole school arrives.

  • 11:30 am Students gather in their classrooms.
  • 12:00 pm Noon Dismissal – Students are Dismissed!

Further Details For Walk-A-Thon Day

Apparel

Daily O.L.M. uniform is not required, however students are required to wear their O.L.M. gym t-shirt or walk-a-thon t-shirt. Students who qualify for the walk-a-thon t-shirt will receive their t-shirts on Thursday June 3rd, and must wear them to school on Friday June 4th.

Students should wear comfortable walking pants/shorts and appropriate walking shoes. Depending on the weather, suitable outerwear is required. Hats are recommended, rain or shine. Students should only carry what is necessary, and able to manage on their own.

Weather

The walk-a-thon is on, rain or shine.

Illness

If your child is sick on walk-a-thon day, follow the same procedure as a regular day and phone the school office by 8:45 a.m.

Electronic Devices

Electronic devices are not allowed.

Lunch

There will be no free lunch this year due to feedback and request from parents. This cost savings will increase our Walk-A-Thon proceeds, and can be put towards all our goals and plans throughout the school year.

Dismissal

Students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm, Noon.
